On Thursday I popped along to the preview for Silo Theatre's latest offering, That Face. Starring Jennifer Ward-Leland, and a bunch of youngsters I've never seen before (but hope to again), it's a rather disturbing tale of a very dysfunctional family. And it's good. I'm really not sure what to write about this play, and not give away anything! So, I'm just going to quote the promotional material at you, another review, and tell you it is all true:
Written when she was just 19, Polly Stenham's trail-blazing debut left London audiences gobsmacked, picking up every award under the sun. Told with youthful swagger, tremendous heart and a dark, mischievous sense of humour, Stenham explodes the tricky interface between neglect and active abuse. When children are forced to act like parents, and parents ignore their responsibilities, who has the right to dictate the future?Be prepared to laugh (if a little awkwardly, in places), cringe a little, and be glad (hopefully) that you family isn't quite so fucked up as this one.
That Face is playing at the Herald Theatre, and is open until April 9, so that's plenty of time for you to get along! Get your tickets from The EDGE for $25-45.
