It'd been quite a while since I had last been to Auckland Zoo, and I really didn't expect that my next visit would be to see Anika Moa!
But, thanks to the lovely folk at Sunrise, I scored tickets to Zoo Music, and I did get to enjoy seeing both some great New Zealand musicians, and the cute red pandas!
We didn't arrive in time to see Lisa Crawley, but enjoyed half of Sola Rosa's set, and all of Anika Moa. I was especially pleased to hear, first up, In The Morning, which is probably my favourite of her songs
And, by all accounts, Anika has been a busy chick - getting married and just finishing up her latest album! We heard some great new songs, and old favourites on Saturday night. This session of Zoo Music was in aid of 21st Century Tiger, a worthy cause, and not just because we've just entered the year of the tiger in the Chinese calendar!
Tigers are great, no doubt about it. In fact, the last time I went to the Zoo was shortly after Oz the tiger came out of quarantine! Lots of photos of that trip, including a much better one of a red panda, can be found on my old negelect Vox blog. There had been quite a few changes in the interim, and the Zoo is looking great!
There are still a few Zoo Music gigs to come in February and March, including Midnight Youth with Artisan Guns and Lydia Cole, The Topp Twins, and Opensouls and Batucada Sound Machine. Find more information, and buy tickets here.
